Ripped jeans? No, it's ripped mentality

Ripped jeans? No, it's ripped mentality

Recently Uttarakhand CM made a bizzare statement where he stated women in ripped jeans set a ‘bad example’. Attributing to an attire of women who had sat next to his flight, he said “You run an NGO, wear jeans ripped at the knees, move about in society, children are with you, what values you will teach?”

He didn't stop there at all, he further termed it as "kainchi wala sanskaar" (scissors culture). Showing bare knees, wearing ripped denim and looking like rich kids - these are the values being given now. Where is this coming from, if not at home?

After facing backlash from all sections, he apologized for his remark but at the same time he still repeated his objection to 'ripped jeans'.

Frankly speaking, the real problem lies in sick and ripped mentality of male chauvinist. It reflects nothing but misogynistic and patriarchal attitude of men towards women.

According to sociologist Allan G. Johnson, "misogyny is a cultural attitude of hatred for females because they are female". It has been manifested in many ways, and sometimes in a violent way too. From online harassment to stalking, verbal abuse to physical assault, unwanted phone call to online trolling, rape threats to acid attacks. These kind of behaviour left them traumatised and made them feel physically unsafe in society.

Cyber stalking is an another extension to harass any girl. It is such a worst kind of situation where anyone could get an access to the address and personal details of any girl from internet. It is scary and nightmare situation for any girl where she even couldn't find herself safe at home.

'Boys will be boys' - every minor offences of boys has been neutralised in society  and viewed through this prism. Girls have been forced to face such toxicity at every level, from streets to school, school to workplace. Few examples of such crass stereotypes comment are like - "women are physically weak and need to be protected"; "good women are sexually chaste"; "women who drink and smoke ‘ask’ for sexual advances or presume that a sexually active woman consented to rape".

"Ladka hai, ho jaati hain aisi baatein" - it is most 'overused' generalised statement used by patriarchal society to hide the henious crimes committed by boys. At the same time, it glorifies  machismo attitude and patriarchal mindset.

From where such 'outlaw behaviour' get an immune ? Is it from Judiciary?

We have recently witnessed a most shocking verdict where Madhya Pradesh HC judge granted bail to a suspected molestor and order to visit victim's home and ‘allows’ her to tie a rakhi on him. Similar incident happened when a Bombay HC judge gave verdict where she stated that "groping without skin-to-skin contact isn't sexual assault".

These kind of judgement left an dangerous precedent and even unmasking the misogyny of indian courts. But thank God, SC came forward and forbade judges from making gender stereotypical comments.

Is it true that ripped jeans can be caused to injure the so-called indian sanskaar?? The answer is big NO. The real problem lies in patriarchal and misogyny mentality which are inherently biased and hatred against women. It reflects and emulates their sick mentality to the core. Infact it manifests the ripped mentality of male-dominated society. It's high time to reiterate that attires of women are not the problem, the problem lies in their ripped mentality. It's time for men to stand up and look women beyond as an object. Change your ill-mentality. Not women's clothes.

Happiness lies in little things

HAPPINESS LIES IN LITTLE THINGS It is rightly said by Ralph Marston that Happiness is a choice, not a result. Nothing will make you happy until you choose to be happy. No person will make you happy unless you decide to be happy. Your happiness will not come to you. It can be only come from you. Happines can be defined as a state of mind and the positive feeling when things are going great. But every person defines happiness as per their own convenience. For some, happiness is perfect bliss, but for other happiness is all about  great health and money. For some, happiness is that moment when you achieved your goal,  reunions with friends or family, watching good movies, or buying a first car or anything. Keeping all this in consideration and clubbed all different versions into one, we can say that definition of happiness varies from person to person and it depends on the person to person. If we look it at bigger picture, happiness can be equated with 'pleasure' and 'contentm...

3P's : Pandemic, People and Pain

3P's : Pandemic, People and Pain   Govt caught napping, people lowered their guard too India, once again has been grappling with an ambush of second wave of COVID-19 pandemic and it is getting more frightening day by day. Exponential surge in cases, shortage of vital medicine, unavailability of oxygen, no oxygenated bed, people dying without getting proper treatment, crematorium full of dead bodies. Catastrophe all around the globe.  Entire system has been collapsed, public healthcare system is being put on ventilator, migrants once again started to flee like they did last year. Lockdown seems inevitable now. Last year, nation-wide lockdown has been imposed by govt in order to break the chain of contagious virus. But a pertinent question should be asked to highest echelons of power - why we have failed to ramp up healthcare infrastructure in last 1 year despite knowing the risk of second wave? They asked to bang thalis, we did it. Again they asked to lighting diyas, aga...
